Shortly before the U.S. independence day, Modesto’s own Jon Olsen will be representing the United States as part of a team competing in the 2017 IAU 24-Hour World Championships.
The goal is to see how many miles you can run in that time period.
Olsen qualified for the U.S. team this year by running 154.5 miles in 24 hours at the Run4Water in Lebanon, Tenn., Feb. 4, 2017. He will be joined by five other men on the U.S. 24-hour team. Six women also will represent the United States.
Altogether more than 300 runners from a multitude of countries are expected at the international event, which will be held July 1-2 in Victoria Park, Belfast, Ireland.
In 2013, Olsen led the U.S. 24-hour men’s team to a gold medal, and he won an individual gold at the International Association of Ultrarunners 24-Hour World Championships in Steenbergen, The Netherlands. Olsen ran 269.675 kilometers or 167.568 miles. You can read his recap of the event here.
We wish Jon and the rest of the U.S. team the best of luck in Ireland.
